Space in the Brandon Public Library has long been an issue, and that need has become even more pressing in the past several years. This is evident from significant increases in material circulation counts, library visits, computer usage, and event participation. The current space does not allow us to adequately fulfill our mission of serving library patrons, the Village of Brandon, and surrounding townships.
In the last quarter of 2015, the Brandon Village Board authorized the creation of a Library Expansion Committee, which included representatives from the Village Board, the Library Board, and the community.
So far, site locations and funding have been the two biggest items of discussion. The consensus of the Expansion Committee is that the Library should stay on Main Street if at all possible, preferably in the present historic building. An expansion that utilizes the current building preserves an outstanding historical tradition and landmark, and provides both visibility and access. The Committee continues to work on how to make this happen. We are determined to make this long-standing dream come true in the near future. With that in mind, we have established a dedicated account to accept donations for the library expansion. As soon as feasible plans are developed and approved, this page will keep everyone informed and up to date on the progress of this project to improve the Brandon Public Library and the Village of Brandon.
In the meantime, we welcome any feedback and ideas you have for the library expansion.
